A downloadable game

I have taken the original 1970s source code of the 80 column printer terminal based simulation and converted it to run on a Commodore Plus/4 and C16 (with 32-64k RAM upgrade) ...No mainframe required!

Whilst undertaking this conversion I have added numerous subtle enhancements, including "helpers" for navigation & photon torpedo targeting and long range scanner interpretation guide. I've re-engineered and refined many stats, charts & data outputs. I've also added some user-friendly features and extra summary data readouts. All whilst keeping to the exact gameplay experience of the original.

This program is 100% text based and uses ZERO cursor control codes, only carriage returns, just like the mainframe terminal-based games of the 70s.

Please leave comments, bug reports and suggestions. Thank you!

NOTE: If you're intending to run on a C16, you will need a RAM upgrade, like this one: SaRuMan TED (64k RAM Upgrade) (polyplay.xyz)

NOTE 2: Make sure you unplug joystick(s) BEFORE turning computer on. Game will not work properly with a joystick connected. Always good practice to plug/unplug joysticks when C16 is turned off anyway to avoid permanent damage to the TED chip.

December 18th update... Tested on a real C16 (with 64k RAM upgrade) and it works perfectly!

Download

Download
trek-plus4-3f3.d64 170 kB

Install instructions

Download the disc image file "trek-plus4-3f3.d64"

(I recommend renaming the disc image file to simply "trek" for quicker typing in for directory commands)

Once the disc image is on your Commodore, in most cases, the commands to type are:

DLOAD "TREK" [RETURN]

RUN [RETURN]

or

DLOAD "TREK-VANILLA" for the totally vanilla version without colour control codes.
