November 2023 update
Super Star Trek (C64) » Devlog
**NOVEMBER 2023 UPDATE **
- I've corrected a bug with the Distance/Direction calculator within "com". Thank you Fern. Applies to PET, C64 & Plus/4 ports
**JUNE 2023 UPDATE **
- I've removed the PET & Plus/4 conversions from this page and I will be moving them to their own dedicated pages
** MAY 2023 UPDATE **
- Removed redundant code from my abandoned “full screen short range scanner” facility
- Fixed error trapping for direction/distance calculator within COM
- Added correct message if “GAL” secret command is used and ship’s computer is down rather than going directly back to command input prompt
- Re-instated colours to title page now that I’m implementing colours completely differently
- Unified source code to suit PET, C64 and Plus/4 computers! It is just line 80 that tells the program how colour codes are implemented (if any) according the computer it's running on. This makes maintaining my releases MUCH easier. See download/install instructions after "plain text" file.
- Re-engineered the "SRS+Summary Data" display routine. Now MUCH MUCH faster in operation
- Renumbered line numbers for program source code. No mean feat for Commodore machines
- Nice new feature: Added a command, "SLS", which displays both Short and Long Range Scans in one go
- Improved Galaxy Record display for VIC-20 with a new position highlight method (moved to separate project page)
- Corrected a minor formatting issue with "Starbase Protects Enterprise" message
- Corrected distance result in Enterprise-to-Klingons torpedo data report (even tho only the direction is actually useful here)
- Removed colour schemes for C64 version - too cumbersome to maintain eleventy-eight flavours
- Added Commodore VIC-20 version (moved to separate project page)
- Added Commodore Plus/4 version
- Corrected random seed generator for those systems that auto-boot into the game at switch on, like "Kung Fu Flash" etc
- Reduced battle reports (in both directions) from 3 lines per attack to 2 lines per attack
- Added "Max Warp" to SRS summary data display, which is based on condition of warp engines and available energy
- Reduced "Captain's Rating" to an integer
- Decluttered "title screen", credits are in the REMs of the program source code
- Added "Days Left" to SRS summary data display
- Added location of Enterprise highlight to LRS and galaxy record display
- Added a "secret" command; "GAL" which macros straight into galaxy record display, as long as onboard ships computer is not damaged
- Corrected the X/Y - Y/X inversion error with "Direction/Distance Calculator" within COM
- Significant restructuring of many routines
- Further reduction in unnecessary carriage returns making the game visually much more compact
- Corrected the logic behind when "press return to continue" prompt would appear for long post-battle reports etc
** APRIL 2023 UPDATE **
- Removed all double carriage returns for a more compact experience
- Fixed Starbase direction/distance calculator (was previously mathematically incorrect)
- Now with 80 column style SRS and Summary Stats!
- Added a new full-screen Short Range Scanner (command "SRS2") - now removed, causing slow down with normal SRS
- Tweaked all charts
- Further tidying up of non-chart outputs
- All colours now configurable (see program lines 73-88) - now removed
** MARCH 2023 UPDATE **
- Added disc image for CBM PET (40 column ONLY)
- Added a Long Range Scanner helper display
- Added LRS colours to Galaxy Record screen
- Added an SRS icons "key" to title screen
- Tidy up of Phasers dialogues, energy and damage displays
- Added an 8x dot progress bar to show galaxy creation on startup
- Limited numerous data displays to 3 decimal places
- Added a random seed generator based on internal timer
- Reworked the Damage Control reporting with conditional colour text - no longer numerics only
- Added "KEY" command to display key to SRS icons
- Indented many data outputs (ongoing)
- Added command list and SRS icon list to startup
- Adjusted decimals (x3) input with targeting and navigation (now matches targeting and navigation data outputs)
- Broken up post-navigation report into two parts to help with reading of damage data etc.
** SEP 2022 UPDATE **
- I've corrected various typos that were present in the original 1970s source code
- Enabled decimal point entries to Warp value
- Corrected small bug in NAV numerics (for decimals)
- Added a helpful direction display (thank you Les Orchard) for NAVigation entry
- Fixed (hopefully) various "divide by zero" errors... Thank you "ibitato".
- Reworked Photon Torpedo routines and also added Les' NAV helper
- Fixed formatting issues with "Photon Torpedo Data" within COM
** AUG 2022 UPDATE **
- Replaced the C64's standard "input" command with my own "limited input" implementation
- Corrected a few bugs; notably NAVigation entry
** JAN+ 2022 UPDATE **
- Huge re-formatting job of converting 80 column output to suit 40 column displays
- Separated SRS chart from summary data from inline 80 column to two sections of 40 columns
- Added some sympathetically applied colours to key elements of the display
- Improved "grids" to SRS and LRS outputs, now easier to read with vertical divisions
- Re-engineered the Galaxy Map chart to still display in two main centred columns of 40 column output
